The Endless Mountains (page 1) |

As the pioneer
settlers drove their oxen and mules through this remote territory it
seemed the ups and downs would never cease; ever since, the area has
been known as the “Endless Mountains”. Roughly including all or parts
of Tioga, Bradford, Susquehanna, Lycoming, Sullivan, Luzerne and
Wyoming Counties, the region consists of plateaus deeply incised by the
Susquehanna River and its tributaries. Much of the area remains wild, preserved in vast acreage of state forest and game lands. There are state parks at Ricketts Glen and at the northern end of Pine Creek Gorge. The mountains here are frequent and steep, and many streams flowing off of them offer beautiful waterfalls. In addition to many “roadside” falls, the area boasts some of the most spectacular waterfall hikes to be found anywhere. |
